Spoke making machines
Extremely precise, fast, and compact
Spokes not only connect the rim and the hub, they also play a crucial role in stability, safety, and riding comfort. Whether for racing bikes, e-bikes, or motorcycles, the demands on spokes are constantly increasing. Precision, repeatability, and efficiency in production are essential to ensure the highest quality at large volumes.

Innovative complete solutions for the production of bicycle and motorcycle spokes
For the production of stainless steel spokes or those made from galvanized wire for bicycles, AMBA provides all-in-one spoke machines as true complete solutions. The spoke machine unwinds the wire directly from the coil and processes it in a single, continuous production process right through to the finished, threaded, and bent spoke.
“For over a century, with precision and speed thanks to cold forming and a unique depth of manufacturing, we have been developing spoke machines that combine all production steps from raw material to the fully finished spoke into one continuous process.”

Principles & Innovations
Spoke making machines
The current generation of this machine group, the SpM II, features our servo motor controlled wire feed with a cutting tolerance of ±0.05 mm. The production speed can be continuously adjusted up to 300 spokes per minute.
Spoke presses
For the production of spokes with a square cross-section (“blade spokes”), we supply special machines consisting of a combination of a spoke making machine and a press. These deliver a pressing force of up to 250 tons.
Spoke reducing machines
For the production of butted spokes with a reduced middle section and different diameters in the thread and bend areas, we manufacture spoke reducing machines. The reduction is carried out either by reducing rollers (bicycle spokes) or by hammer heads (motorcycle spokes).
Nipple making machines
Our nipple making machines process pre-manufactured nipple blanks. The blanks are automatically fed from a collection container. The various processing steps are arranged in the required sequence on an indexing table machine. We also offer machining of the head side in our machines. The machines achieve an output of 90 pieces per minute.

Mechanical precision
Cold forming is the core of our machines. Instead of shaping material through heating, AMBA uses forming without prior heating efficient, controlled, and energy-saving.

Frequently Asked Questions
What advantages does an AMBA spoke-making machine offer compared to conventional production lines?
AMBA's all-in-one spoke forming machines combine all work steps – from wire unwinding to the finished, threaded, and bent spoke – in a single machine. This significantly reduces interfaces, setup times, and space requirements. At the same time, the integrated process control ensures consistently high quality across millions of units. Manufacturers benefit from significantly shorter lead times, high energy efficiency, and precise, low-maintenance cold forming..
For which spoke types and materials are the AMBA machines suitable?
AMBA machines process stainless steel and galvanized wires in various wire gauges – for both classic bicycle spokes and more robust versions used in e-bikes or motorcycles. The servo-controlled systems allow for flexible adjustments in length, diameter, and the position of the reduced sections, enabling the production of a wide variety of spoke geometries within a single production run.
How does AMBA support the commissioning and ongoing operation?
AMBA supports its customers from project planning and construction to on-site commissioning. After handover, technical service is available for maintenance, training, and spare parts supply. The modular design of many machines allows for the quick replacement of wear parts or tool modules – a crucial factor for minimal downtime and consistently high system availability.
How quickly can an AMBA spoke machine be integrated into existing production?
AMBA machines are designed for seamless integration into existing manufacturing environments. Thanks to standardized interfaces, compact design, and adaptable cycle times, integration into existing production lines is usually possible within a few weeks. Customers benefit from short delivery times, customized adaptation to their production conditions, and a comprehensive service package for a smooth production start-up.
